Welcome to the Brain & Behaviour Laboratory at Thompson Rivers University!

We investigate how the human brain generates skilled sensorimotor behaviours. Our research is informed by theories and insights from developmental psychology, behavioural neuroscience, and sensory-perceptual sciences. We use highspeed video, eye-tracking, and 3D electromagnetic trackers to study skilled movements such as prehension, object manipulation, and tool-use from birth to adulthood. Working with collaborators, we also employ functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and computer modelling to investigate how developmental changes in behavioural skill relate to changes in neural organization in order to better understand both typical and atypical patterns of development.

Current projects in the lab include:

  • Naturalistic mapping of cortical networks in developing infants
  • Individual differences in the development of object grasping and manipulation strategies
  • Neurobehavioural correlates of cerebral visual impairment
  • Top-down influences on visual perception
